"Intent is everything."
I have this quote up on the wall at the gym. This quote often gets confused. People mix up intent with intend. Intent is when there is a thought being the driving force behind an action. Intent requires an action to be with it, where as to intend is when there is only thought, no action. Intending is kind of like wishing. To intend is lame.
Intent on the other hand is extremely powerful. It takes an action and puts a cause and a force behind it, it sets a direction for which you are going. Without it, the action will often change directions with out the person knowing it.
Many times this gets confused with goal setting. Intention is different than goal setting, intention is a state of being, where as in goal setting we are trying accomplish a single objective. I believe that it is through intent that we set our state of being. It is through our state of being that our goals, all goals can and will be accomplished. It is intent that is the pillar stone of any goal or achievement.
Through the practice of intention, we can create a state of being that allows us to be the deepest version of ones true and honest self. It is through this practice that excellence can be derived. Intent will open the windows and allow us to have a clear vision of who we are and what we need to focus on to be the person that we want to be. To be the type of person that accomplishes the goals we have laid out before ourselves.
Goals are great, they are makers on the never ending road of greatness. Our intention is the first step on the road of being. The first step is the most important step, we can not forget that.
Get in the practice of setting your intent before your workout. Gathering your thoughts, and being the person you want to be. Being the person you are. Do your actions with the excellence that we know we are capable of , and with the intention of being a champion. This type of intention will change our workouts and our life.
